THE RUN DOWN | Comfort Food

When it’s cold and frosty outside and the smell of the rain makes you want to hide under the covers, one thing that’ll make the day seem less awful is chowing down on some of the most comforting food you can find… in your pajamas of course! Check out some of our favorite spots where you can find food that reminds you of your childhood or gives you that warm feeling inside because it’s just. that. good.

– the best Grilled Cheese –

Flatiron District | 900 Broadway, New York, NY 10003 | (212) 466-3340

Hours: Monday: 11 AM – 4 PM | Tuesday – Thursday: 12 PM – 8 PM | Friday – Saturday: 12 PM – 9 PM | Sunday: Closed

The first time I visited Seattle, I spent a whole month there for work. I remember it being freezing cold with spitting rain and constant gray skies. Despite this, Seattle is magical in its own way and is a city I absolutely love – especially in the spring and summer. After the first two weeks of dull skies and awful weather, I began to get a bit homesick (not that temperatures were any better at home) and a friend brought me to Beecher’s Handmade Cheese Shop in Pike Market. I can’t begin to tell you how amazing that grilled cheese was and IS, not only for reminding me of home, but because of how perfectly delicious, flavourful, and mouthwatering it is! Needless to say, I had about 30 grilled cheeses on that trip and took one with me on my flight back home. I even kept the sticker from my first sandwich in my wallet so that I’d always remember where to find it hahah. But guess what?! They have a New York location that is just as good! If you love cheese – this is the spot for you!

Schnitzel, Wraps, and Brisket, Oh MY!

This kosher franchise hits the mark with finger foods that will have your stomach begging for more! With locations in Brooklyn, Queens, the Upper West Side, and Staten Island, finding a Holy Schnitzel spot is that much easier. On those nights when I want to curl up in front of the television and binge-watch my favorite show, I’ve got these guys on speed dial. My go-to order is a bit random. I usually get the Loaded Brisket Fries Jalapeno Mayo and the Falafel Platter (that comes with the yummiest pita) which is always SO GOOD. Definitely try this place out… it’s the home of kosher comfort food!

NORDSTROM GRILL

Lemon Herb Grilled Halibut with Sweet Pea & Asparagus Risotto

For those of us who like the comfort of our homes, but want a restaurant feel I’ve got the solution you may not have tried. NORDSTROM. Yep. They’ve really stepped up their restaurant game and the food IS. SO. YUMMY. Their menus differ based on season and location, but my absolute favorite dish is the Lemon Herb Grilled Halibut with sweet pea and asparagus risotto with an extra side of fries. I’ve had it several times from the Nordstrom Grill and it is hands down my favorite dish that they make and is always cooked to perfection. If you’re looking for elevated classics, they’ve got crab spaghetti, gnocchi with chicken meatballs, and tomato basil soup. They also offer large family sized to-go meals if you’d like bigger portions. If you try out any of their other locations like the Cafe Bistro, Marketplace Cafe, or Grill, let me know what you ordered and if you enjoyed it!

It’s gonna be a cold one this weekend! What are your go-to comfort foods?
